Clean Windows!!

Yesterday was a pretty exciting day here in our home - we had our windows cleaned!!

This was the first time we've ever hired a company to clean the windows in our house, with the exception of when we were putting our condos up on the market to sell. When we had it done at the condos, we realized how much better the windows looked, and what a difference a good cleaning made.

I admit, we had lived at the condos for 7 years, without having the windows cleaned. I would clean the insides of the windows once in a while, but it's the outside ones that get really dirty, and most of them are just so hard to reach. So that means, I might spray them down with a hose once in a while, but that was usually the extent of it.

Our friend, Martin, up in Seattle, mentioned to us that he has his windows cleaned once a year. Seemed like a reasonable idea. We've been in our new home for just over a year-and-a-half. Wewaited until (it seemed) like it wouldn't rain for a while (which could happen at any time here, I realize) and scheduled an appointment.

These guys were pretty amazing! It was a team of two. We have roughly 25 windows around our house, plus two nanowall doors, and two glass-balcony walls.

I thought it was a fairly large job, considering the number of windows and the size of the various glass panes. Not to mention the difficult access to some of the glass. These guys have been in the business for many years in San Francisco, and it sounds like they have hundreds of clients all over the city. The said our job was fairly average in size, while it's not unusual for them to have much larger jobs than ours. As it was, it took two guys about 7 hours. Apparently, it's not unusual for them to spend multiple days at larger jobs.

The name of the company is Avalon Cleaning. I found their yelp page (with no reviews) and their own website is not up at the moment. Hmmmm... Well, we had a great experience with them. :)

They did a four-part cleaning process on each window:

-wet
-full scrape down
-re-wet
-full sponge wash

they also took down each of the window screens (no small feat - those things were in there pretty snugly) and cleaned each one.

They brought extension ladders and rope, to reach the hard-to-reach windows, and even scaled out to our roof to reach a set of windows.

Pretty impressive.

The result is pretty awesome! The windows are super-clean, and I'm amazed how much of a difference it made to have the screens cleaned, too.

Dick's office - he was able to crank out the windows enough so that he could squeeze his hand and equipment out the side to clean the window
