Safari #6

This morning, we headed out for our last morning safari at 5:30am, and the excitement started at our very own front door.
A HUGE spider was sitting on the door latch that we must use to lock our door. (if we don't lock it, the baboons can open the door, and wreak havoc inside.) The photo doesn't do it justice, but Dick was a brave man, and he took a stick to carry the spider to a nearby bush. Eek!

The safari started off very exciting as well. We came across a few elephants early on, and we were very close to them. One of them was especially friendly, and offered to have his picture taken with each of us. How hospitable!

This elephant even offered to come around to the other side of the vehicle to take a photo with me!

It was a nice way to start our morning! Thank you, Mr. Friendly Elephant!

Next up: our first Giraffe of the trip! What a beauty he was - so tall!

We came across a heard of buffalo with some zebra. Did you know that a group of zebra is called a "dazzle"? :)

We had our morning break in a lovely area with this water hole.

this may be one of my most favorite photos from the trip so far

"Safari Richard" looks like he stepped out of a LL Bean catalog!

We had some exciting news after our break. Lucian had heard that a Cheetah had been spotted! We piled back into our vehicle to find him. How amazing! Cheetahs are not often come by on safaris. Lucian said he once went 2 years without seeing one. We were so lucky!

Cheetah!

After leaving the cheetah, we drove along the rode that was on the outskirts of Kruger National Park. There's a HUGE fence that goes around the park.

We spotted a water buffalo directly on the other side of the fence. He was on the wrong side. Some of the staff was going to come over to help him back in the park.

We drove by a large area of several acres that had been the scene of a controlled burn yesterday. When the rains come, it will be full of green vegetation.

We also spotted another beautiful giraffe walking down one of the paths.

The weather is definitely warmer today, as forecasted. It was nice to be out in our lighter shirts and sunhats. Not too hot, but very nice.
