Twelve Weeks of Wallace!!

Today marks our twelve week adoptaversary with Wallace!!

Twelve weeks - almost three months. We've all learned so much about each other since then.

Wallace was just over eleven months old and underweight when we first met him. The first time we met him (a week before we adopted him) it had only been 10 days since he had his left hind leg amputated.

Wallace was about 15lbs when we adopted him from the San Francisco SPCA. We weighed him last week, and he is around 18.5lbs now. He has gained weight, and he has grown! His hair has also grown quite a lot since then (he has an appointment for his first grooming later this week!)

We have all established a very nice routine together during our first three months together. He is eager to learn new things, is very smart, and has become quite good at visiting friends at their homes. He doesn't have separation anxiety when we leave him for a while, and really hasn't caused us any problems at all.

Dick and I are both overjoyed with Wallace and our decision to adopt him. He has proven to be a very good, easy-to-train dog, with a wonderfully happy and loving personality. He helped us through our mourning after we lost our beloved Noe kitty. For a couple who have never owned a dog before, we are grateful that our first dog together has been such a positive experience already!

Wallace makes such a great first impression to all who meet him - especially when he's playing at the dog park. Wallace is really great about meeting and playing with dogs of all sizes. Last week, I joked to Dick that Wallace has made himself the self-appointed Ambassador at our dog park. He has a knack for meeting dogs who are new to the park, and getting them to play with him. I've had so many people tell me that they didn't even notice that he's missing a leg until after they see him running around the park at top speed. Several times, we've had people tell us that Wallace is a lucky little dog that we adopted him despite his amputation. I always say that we're the lucky ones. He has brought so much joy into our lives.

We've had so many great adventures already in the first twelve weeks together. Just imagine what lays ahead!
