Introducing Wallace!!!
Dick and I have been thinking about getting a dog for years. Neither of us have ever owned one before, so we were very nervous about it, and always talked ourselves out of it.
Last week, I spotted Wallace on the SF SPCA's website. (They spelled it "Wallis") I was instantly smitten, both by his photos as well as his description.
Wallace is a rescue dog from Stockton (hey! I'm from Stockton, too!). He is just under a year old. One of his hind legs was amputated only a couple of weeks ago. Sadly, he had been hit by a car over a month ago which broke his leg and his previous owners didn't get him proper care.
Dick and I went to visit him at the SPCA three times last week. He is a very sweet, gentle dog, and is adapting to having three legs very well. On Friday, we put a hold on him over the weekend to give us time to make the final decision and to prepare our home for him.
Now, I know you are all thinking about our kitty Noe, wondering how she'll react to a dog in the house. That's our big concern, too, but we are hopeful. We plan to introduce them very slowly over the next several days, and we keep our master bedroom as Noe's dog-free zone - it's where she is 99% of the time already.
Wallace has been back at home with us for just over an hour now, and seems to like it all so far. We ran around in our backyard for a while, then introduced him to his crate and playpen. He's resting in there now.
This is a big deal for all of us (Noe and Wallace, too!) but we're very hopeful that it all goes well and that we'll build a happy home together.
