Our first training class with Wallace

We took Wallace to his first training class at the San Francisco SPCA tonight. We're taking a "Just the Small Basics" class, which is a beginner class for dogs under 20lbs.

Dick and I attended the first of five classes together, which was for humans only. The last four classes will be with our dogs.

It was a pretty small group - only 5 dogs in total, and was an hour long.

Wallace did GREAT!! The instructor used him as an example a few times, and he did very well.

The biggest different thing that we learned tonight was to teach him "Sit", "Down", "Touch" and "Stand" with hand signals only. We had taught him with the verbal commands and hand signals before, but learned that it is best (according to them) to teach them separately. Wallace picked up on these quite well, but we'll be practicing together before next week's class.

We also learned basics of how to hold his leash, how to walk with him, and how to best get him familiar with is name.

Wallace seemed to enjoy the class very much. He was very well behaved (as were the other dogs) and learned a lot! Looking forward ago our next class together.
