Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since Dick's surgery on his patella. His recovery continues to go well.
Dick started Physical Therapy this week. His first appointment was on Tuesday, and his second was today. His therapist was quite pleased and with the progress of his recovery so far. Today, Dick was able to bend his knee to 130 degrees. (For context, his other knee bends to about 145 degrees. 120 degrees is considered functional.)
Dick is able to walk around our house without using his immobilizer. He still wears it when outside in public as a precaution and for additional support. (It also helps to alert people that he has an injury.) Just this week, (yesterday, actually) he is also able to go up and down the stairs (without the immobilizer) one step at a time (versus having to put both feet on each stair before going to the next).
The therapist sent Dick home on Tuesday with a group of exercises that takes him about 20 minutes to complete, to be done twice a day. She added a few more to the list today.
Today, she had Dick ride on a stationary bike for several minutes. She has also ended each session with electrotherapy.
Dick has another appointment with his surgeon next Tuesday. We're hoping that he'll be out of the immobilizer soon, and that he'll be given the "okay" to drive again. :)
