Rusty the Maui Cat (and friend)

Our friends, Dan and Nicole, regularly vacation in Hawaii, most recently on Maui. When we told them where we were staying (on the Wailea side of the island) they sent us a list of their favorite places and things to do.

One if those items was a nice trail walk between all the resorts. Dan sent us a photo of Rusty the Cat, a kitty who always hangs out just off the walking trail. Dan told us to be on the lookout, and to "give Rusty some love".

We woke up at 6:00 to try to see the sunrise (we were about 30 min too late) and to talk a nice walk along the trail before to got too warm.

Sure enough, we found Rusty, and another friendly kitty! We spent some nice time with them, giving them some love. :)

Our morning walk was about 3.5 miles, which was a very nice way to start our day. :)

ALoha,
Thought you would want to know. The short haired cat was named Joey and he was adopted to a home in Haiku. Rusty passed away this month, he was the long haired one. He had cancer in his jaw and had to be put down. RIP Rusty, 2000-2022. yes, he was 22 years old.

How sad, I wish Rusty could have just stayed put & died naturally

I met Rusty a few years ago and would visit him every February. I saw a picture of him shortly before he passed. He looked bad his mouth and face were disfigured from the cancer. I hope he did not suffer.

He was humanely euthanized by the vet, his ashes were scattered at his beach path location. Prints of my art of him are available and I donate to the Rusty Mauicat charity.
