Saturday's 14-Mile Walk of Hills
Saturday's 14-mile route
This morning, our group of 6 traversed up and down some pretty enormous hills around San Francisco. I think I may have said this over almost every training walk this week, but I think Linda makes each one more and more challenging!
We met at the Sports Basement in Potrero Hill instead of our usual place in the Presidio today. It was great, as it allowed us access to more places that we wouldn't otherwise get to.
Today was a day of some of the biggest hills in San Francisco! We started off in Potrero, through Hayes Valley, past the Painted Ladies (and Alamo Square, which is going through a major reconstruction, through the Castro, and to our first major hill: Kite Hill.
Next we climbed UP to TWIN PEAKS!! It's quite surprising, but in the 21 years that I've lived in San Francisco, and the seven years that I've been doing training walks, I've never walked to the top of Twin Peaks before! It was awesome!
For good or for bad, today was a typical San Francisco Summer morning, meaning the City was covered in fog! It was SO foggy that we had no view at all from the top of Twin Peaks. It was nice and cool, though, which is always my preference when walking.
Climbing to the top of Twin Peaks in the fog!
At the top of Twin Peaks! If it weren't for the fog, you'd see Downtown San Francisco behind us!
We walked down Twin Peaks (we climbed both peaks!) down to Portola Drive. After a break at the Molly Stones, we went down to Glen Canyon Park. (more hills)
From there we went into Bernal Heights where we climbed the STEEPEST Street in SF, Bradford Street!

That's Bernal Heights Park Hill in the Distance - that's where we'll eventually end up!

The fog started to clear for the last two miles of our walk, and the sun finally came out.
