Today's 16-mile Training Walk

Today's Route

I'm back in San Francisco this weekend for a couple of long training walks. We walked 16-miles today, and I'm hoping to get in another 12-miles tomorrow.

Today's weather was pretty ideal for the 16-mile walk. It was mostly overcast and foggy, with highs in the mid-60s. With the exception of getting wet while the fog was very thick, it was cool enough for a light jacket, and warmed up enough to wear just a tank top.

We met at the Arguello Gate in Presidio Heights at 6:30am and headed out for our 16-miles. We walked through the Presidio just a little bit before heading out to Fulton and into Golden Gate Park. We passed by the Rose Garden, and went to JFK Drive, to Martin Luther King Jr Drive, and out onto 9th Ave.

We went onto Parnassus, onto Stanyon, to the stairs that lead to the Historic Trail. The Historic Trail and S. Ridge Trail are both covered and shaded in eucalyptus trees. The dirt got a little muddy towards the end, and the trees started to rain down beads of water from the the heavy fog.

We came out of the trail, and made our way to Laguna Honda Blvd, where we had our first food stop at the Mollie Stones.

After our break, we went down to the Glen Park Trail, which was very dry compared to all the mud we had just walked through.

We made our way to the neighborhood of Glen Park, which always has beautiful architecture and fun sights to see.

We had our second food break at the Whole Foods in Noe Valley. After that, we climbed up one more set of steep hills to the top of Noe Street.

We walked to Duboce, to Scott Street, to Fell, then walked the length of the Panhandle of Golden Gate Park. Once we were inside the park, we had our last bathroom break at the Conservatory of Flowers, which had a lot of beautiful blooms today!
