Kathy & Phil's Wedding Rehearsal Dinner
Phil and Kathy (Dick's older Sister) are getting married tomorrow!
This evening, we joined Phil & Kathy's families and close friends for their rehearsal dinner at a local BBQ place called 12 Bones. We've learned that this is where President Obama comes to get BBQ when he's in the area.
The food was really delicious, and really lived up to the hype. :)
There were several lovely and Heartfelt toasts. Very nice.
We're having a great time hanging up and catching up with the family. We're all looking forward to the Wedding ceremony tomorrow afternoon.

United started offering this direct flight last Fall. This is our second time taking it. It's so nice to not have to have a layover or long drive to get to Raleigh/Chapel Hill.
I thought this was pretty funny. Kristi Yamaguchi's plaque for the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame was at our gate. We are family friends, and I had been invited to the ceremony in which she was inducted a few years ago.
She used to live in Raleigh with her family, where we had visited her a couple of times. I think it's pretty funny that her plaque is at the gate for the Raleigh flight. :)
On board, we have the option to pay for Direct TV. Looks like I'll be able to watch "The Hobbit" along the way. Yay!

The 2013 WGI Virtual Snark Jar Fundraiser
The Snark Jar!
My deep appreciation to all who have donated so far to the 2013 WGI Virtual Snark Jar! So far, we have raised $350.00 through the Virtual Snark Jar, plus another $357 from my San Francisco WGI Party Snark Jar!! This is just amazing, and I thank you all very much. What a wonderful community we have here.

The thing about Tulips...
I was told that tulips (and other bulb flowers) should NOT be trimmed before being put in a vase. If you trim them (as I always have) the flowers will open much sooner, and the lifespan of the cut flower will be shorter. Who knew?
I was also told not to give it any extra food, and not to put a penny in the water. (I had been told before that a penny would help the stems stand straighter.)
Also, keep only a couple inches of water in the vase. Otherwise, the leaves will become corroded. (This one, I knew.)

It's been three days since I bought these tulips, and they still look fantastic! They are just now starting to open a bit, and their stems are nice and strong.

2013 SF WGI Party!
Another year, another WGI....
...another great WGI Party at my house with a bunch of great friends!
We had a blast last night. Was it me, or was it louder than usual? ;)
We had a lot of new friends attending this year, and were missing some of our friends who had made it previous years. Each year, it's a little different. This year, I mixed it up a bit: we had our usual "Get to know you questionnaire" which is a fun way for everyone to learn about each person's color guard history. I read these to the crowd in-between guards. It's a lot of fun. The new thing this year was my WGI BINGO cards. The idea was that people would learn about each other, and fill each other's names into each of the BINGO squares. It didn't quite work out as I expected, as a lot of people were able to put their own names into many of the squares. Oh, well - still super fun!
The WGI Snark Jar for a Cause was a great success! We raised $357 in donations towards my fundraising for the Immediate Impact Walk! I also had put out an invitation for a "Virtual Snark Jar" to my friends across the country, and many people signed up for that. I've already received numerous donations from some people, and hope to get a little bit more within the next few days.
Another new component to the party this year was that I asked people to bring any WGI Memorabilia that they could share. We had several old guard member jackets, a few uniforms, a few flags, some props, some photos and various WGI programs. Super Fun!!
We had a lot food and a lot to drink! It made for a very fun, and entertaining afternoon and evening.
Thanks to all who came! I had a great time watching WGI with all of you.

Saturday's 6-mile Training Walk and Radio Interview

Yesterday morning, I met with several participants of the upcoming 2013 Immediate Impact Walk for a pre-season training walk. We met for a 6-mile training walk, but also to have the opportunity to be interviewed for a local radio show segment.
Peter Finch, radio personality from KGO (and formally of KFOG) came with us on the entire 6-miles to interview us for one of his segments of his program "The Finch Files".
Peter had heard about our local walk through one of his personal friends, who is one of our participants. He thought it would make a perfect story for one of his 3-minute segments.
He was a total trooper, and hung with us the entire 6-miles, talking with us all along the way.
It certainly wasn't an easy walk, either! Linda's map took us up and down the Battery to Bluffs Trail, up to Immigrant Point Lookout, and throughout the Presidio. It was a beautiful day, and a beautiful walk.
Peter managed to interview each of the walkers, and will put together a 3-minute segment that will be aired several times later this week. What an amazing opportunity for us to get the word out about our local walking event.
Our formal training season will not begin until mid-June, but it was certainly nice to get in a 6-mile pre-season walk with the team yesterday. It's been a long time since I have had a chance to see and spend quality time with these wonderful friends.
I'll post a link to the Immediate Impact Walk episode of The Finch Files once it becomes available later this week.
