Saturday's HOT 16-Mile Training Walk
Today's Route
In my eight years of participating in training walks, today was most challenging walk I've ever been on. We walked 16-18 miles (depending on the app/device measuring) in the heat! We started very early - 6:00am, but it was already 78 degrees out. By the time that we finished at 2:00 it was 102!
We tried to stay smart about the heat all day: we walked in the shade when we could and we took several breaks. We usually took our breaks inside grocery stores with air conditioning, and got a lot of cold snacks. We stayed hydrated by drinking a LOT of water, and often tried to get ice for our water bottles.
16 miles is a good challenge in San Francisco in any type of weather, but the extreme heat was the main factor today by far.
