Art in the Cafeteria

This morning, I dropped Dick off at work and went to the cafeteria to have breakfast with him. His group recently moved to a different building, which has a newly remodeled cafeteria.

Imagine my surprise when we walked into the (really beautiful) cafeteria, and I spotted this enormous Sol Lewitt painting on the far wall. Actually, I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped, and I gasped, "Um... is that an enormous Sol Lewitt?"

After we ordered our breakfast (I had a really yummy garden skillet, for the record), Dick and I walked over to the painting to verify that indeed, it was an orignal Sol Lewitt painting.

Fricking amazing...

There are so many things about Microsoft that impress me, one of them being their enormous (and important) art collection throughout all of their buildings at all campuses. I'm guessing that less than 5% of the people who enter the cafeteria will know what they're looking at, let alone appreciate it, but I think it's just terrific that it is there.

I'm pretty sure that Microsoft offers a monthly docent tour of their art around the Redmond campus. I've been meaning to look into attending one of those. It would be really extraordinary, I'm sure.

Yep, that's an enormous Sol Lewitt at the far end of the cafeteria

btw: they grow their own herbs in the cafeteria, too!
