Johannesburg: Saxon Hotel

We are only in Johannesburg for one night. We are staying at the gorgeous Saxon Hotel, which is famed as the residence where Nelson Mandela spent many an hour editing his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom

It is a GORGEOUS property and spa. Our flight arrived around 7:00am this morning. It took about an hour to get through customs, get our luggage, etc., We were met by a driver who brought us to the hotel (about an hour drive) and we arrived around 9:00. Too early too check into our rooms, we started with a nice breakfast. My fancy French toast was covered with camembert cheese and bacon! Oh, my! How decadent.

Pete and Richard headed out to a museum, while Dick and I decided to stay at the hotel. We worked out in the gym for an hour, then relaxed a bit longer before we were able to check into our room. The workout was GREAT, and a good way to help jump into a time zone. Unfortunately, jetlag still got the best of us, and we took a quick nap in the afternoon after we were in our room.

We met Pete and Richard again for an early dinner on the patio. The grounds here are so lovely. Here are some photos we took around the pool area.

Tomorrow, we will meet at 7:30am to head back to the airport for our flight into Kruger National Park!
