Sunday's 10-mile Training Walk

Sunday Morning's Route

It was a foggy, chilly Sunday morning when we met for our 10-mile training walk at 7:00am. We had a small group of only four walkers today. Several of our walkers are away on vacation, or are nursing colds or minor injuries.

Our group was small, but we had a lot of fun together! The nice thing about walking in a small group is that we all stay together the entire time, and can have conversations with the entire group. I had a great morning walking with Judy, Tina and Peggy.

Today's route is one of my favorites. We walk along Fisherman's Wharf, which is an area I hardly ever go to unless I have guests in from out of town. It's so much nicer in the early morning when it's still quiet and none of the shops are open yet.

As we walked along the Marina and later on the Embarcadero, we passed by a lot of signage and booths for the America's Cup. I hadn't seen any of this yet, so it was fun to read all of the signs and information about the race.

We also passed by the newly opened and relocated Exploratorium on the Embarcadero. Looking forward to checking it out sometime soon. I hear the new space is fantastic!

We had our rest stop at our half-way mark(ish) at the Ferry Building around 9:15. No chocolate croissants or cheese wheels for me today. I had packed my own PB&J! :)

The second half of our walk was a lot of up, up, up some pretty steep hills on Broadway! Ah, gotta love those Broadway hills!

I loved walking the length of Broadway - from the Financial District, through Chinatown, into Russian Hill, across Van Ness eventually leading through Pacific Heights and into the Presidio.

We returned to our starting point (The Transit Cafe in the Presidio) by 10:45am. We made great time! I think the training walks go a little faster with a small group. We don't take as long at bathroom breaks when there aren't so many people to wait for. :)

BONUS: "Off the Grid", our local food trucks were set up across the street from where we started/ended today's walk. (which was known and planned by the lovely Linda.) Tina, Judy and I enjoyed a fantastic quick lunch out on the lawn after our walk. Tina's husband, Jonathan, and their dog, Hildy, came out from Marin to join us as well! It was a really nice way to end our Sunday morning walk together.
