We took our little Noe Cat to the V-E-T last weekend. Overall, she's fine and seems very healthy and happy. She had some blood work done, and all of the levels were normal. Unfortunately, all of the levels associated with Kidney Disease were on the higher side of normal.
This is not uncommon in older kitties. Noe will be turning 12 years old (how did that happen?!) at the end of this month.
As a precautionary and proactive measure, the doctor suggested that we start switching her over to a prescription diet specific for Kidney Disease. Not only that, but he also suggested that we start her on the wet food, versus dry food, as it is better for the kidneys.
Noe has always only had a dry food diet. She's also a nibbler, meaning she has a bowl of food out all the time, and just nibbles on it as she likes.
I was afraid that this new wet food diet might throw us for a loop, and who knows, it may!
This morning, I mixed in about 1/3 can of wet food in with her dry food. I set her down by her dish, and she really enjoyed it! She sat there eating for a good 5 minutes, so I assumed that she may have eaten the entire serving. It turned out she only ate about 1/3 of it, so I'm hoping she'll eat more during the day. The doctor recommends that she eats 1-1/2 can per day eventually. I'm not sure if she's going to eat that much.
Anyhow, the good news is that she likes it. She's never been a finicky eater, and I know most kitties prefer wet food, but you never know!
We'll see how it goes.
