Today is July 11th.
Which means it's also 7/11.
or 7-11
or 7-Eleven!
Which also means "Free Slurpee Day"!
I read this article saying that today is 85th Birthday of the 7-Eleven store chain, and also the 45th Birthday of the Slurpee!
I've been a fan of the Slurpee ever since I can remember. My Maternal Grandparents lived about 1/2 block away from a 7-Eleven store in Stockton, and almost any time we would go visit, my Grandfather would either walk us down or give us money (when we were older) to go buy a Slurpee. (CocaCola Slurpees are the best, by the way.)
I've posted these before, but it's been several years:
Here's a photo of me, my sister and our cousin, Bruce, taken in 1971 in the driveway of my Grandparent's house in Stockton.

..and here's a photo from 1997 of my Grandpa and my Mom after our trip to 7-Eleven. You can see the tall Slurpee and my Mom is holding Star Trek Lotto cards! :)

Anyhow, I love that I live within walking distance to a 7-Eleven store. I don't go very often, but every once-in-a-while, I can hear the Slurpees calling my name. :)
This morning, Dick sent me an email reminding me that today was Free Slurpee Day. I'm so glad he reminded me, as I probably would have forgotten! What a great husband! :)
So, I treked on down to my neighborhood 7-Eleven this afternoon and got a 7.11 oz Slurpee.
Here is the Free Slurpee display at the counter:
Free Slurpee Day!
And me, outside the store, enjoying my CocaCola Slurpee. Drinking Slurpees always reminds me of my Grandpa Chan, and that always makes me smile. :)
Happy Free Slurpee Day!
