Mutant Leeks!

I bought these leeks from Whole Foods today. They are HUGE!!! I'd say they are mutants, except that I just checked my receipt, and they claim to be organic.

Is it Leek Season? Do leeks grow extraordinarily large when in season?

In case you're wondering: I'm making Potato Leek Soup for dinner tonight. :)
