Well, now it's official - I've send out my fundraising letter for the Susan G. Koman 3-Day for the Cure:
Dear Friends and Family,
Last year, I participated in the Susan G. Koman 3-Day for the Cure. From October 1st through October 3rd, I walked 60 miles in three days, and with the help of my generous sponsors, raised $6,240.00 in the fight against Breast Cancer.
I had such a great experience last year, both during the event as well as the months of training before , that I’ve decided to do it all again! This year’s San Francisco 3-Day 60 Mile Walk for the Cure will be held on September 9th – 11th.
Last year, I did a lot of training on own my own, as well as with my teammates. I also joined a local group called the Warming Hut Hotties and trained with them every Saturday and Sunday during the months of August and September. By the the time the event rolled around, I had trained well over 300 miles.
This year, I have decided to become a member of Warming Hut Hotties Team. The team has been around for 9 years, and has raised $2,671,226.00 during that time. I am proud to be a part of this dedicated group of women and men.
We had our first training walk of the season this weekend. We are 23 weeks out from the event, and will train almost every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) until the event in September. We started with 6 miles this morning, which will increase to 8 next weekend and 10 the following weekend. Eventually, we’ll make our way up to walking 20 miles, for two days, back-to-back.
I met with a friend of mine on a weekend last year in-between my Saturday and Sunday training walks. He had already sponsored me, and told me that he was so impressed with my training schedule that he considered me a “very good investment”. :)
With that in mind, I am writing to ask you for your support. Please help me to raise my goal of $5,000. Any amount is appreciated, and no amount is too big or too small - $5 is as good as $50, and if you can do more, that would be terrific. I realize times are tough, and if you are unable to donate, that’s okay, too. I appreciate your support in any way that you are able to give it.
Net proceeds from the Komen 3-Day for the Cure are invested in breast cancer research and community programs. Komen for the Cure® works hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I am hoping to raise my goal of $5,000 to help bring us closer to that goal.
Walking 60 miles in 3 days is still a daunting task, and it will take a lot of time and work to train my body to be ready for the challenge. I am once again positive that with your support and encouragement, I will make it through!
I promise to do my very best in raising money, training, and completing this 3-day journey.
