Oahu Day 2

Day 2 in Paradise!

Today, we decided to take advantage of having a rental car, and went for a drive around the island. We drove up north to some of the quieter beaches. It was a beautiful day for driving around with the top down!

One of our quests for the day was to find a Shrimp Truck on the North Shore. One of Dick's colleagues had told him about them. We found several, and ended up having lunch at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck! It was so yummy! We had Shrimp Scampi over rice, as well as a half order of boiled shrimp with lemon butter. yum!

We took a nice, long walk around the Waimea Falls Park. It was quiet, and beautiful, plus there was a gorgeous water fall at the end of the trail.

We decided to check out the Dole Plantation Garden Tour. The first time I came to Hawaii was when I was 11 years old (or so) and came with my family. We went to the Dole Plantation, which I think was very different at that time from what it is now. Did it used to be a cannery tour? I remember the big water tower, shaped and painted like a pineapple. I also remember them offering free samples of pineapple juice at the end of the tour.

I think everything the Dole Plantation Tour is entirely different now. It has a fun little train ride, which goes through the fields and explains the history of the Dole company, and also how Pineapple is grown. It also has a nice botanical garden, as well as the World's Largest Maze! We did it all - the maze was especially fun. :)
One of the highlights of the day was Dole Whip dairy treat with fresh pineapple. Yum!

We came back to our hotel in time for our reservations at Roy's. It just so happens that one of my favorite restaurants happens to have a branch across the street from our hotel. :) As much as I enjoy the food at Roy's in San Francisco, I have to confess that it's always a little bit better when we're in Hawaii.
