Saturday's big 16-mile training walk

Saturday's Route

It was an overcast, chilly, foggy and wet morning for a big 16-mile training walk!!

We met in the Presidio at 6:30am, then Linda took us all over San Francisco. Highs were only in the mid-50s for most of the walk, so we were bundled up. Some of the highlights included going through the walking trails of Sutro Forest. It was so damp from all the thick fog that it was raining on us. I'm pretty sure it was the only place in San Francisco with rain!!

We also walked through Glen Canyon and later Billy Goat Hill. There were again lots and lots of steep hills and many staircases. The last big hill of the day was up and over 17th Street.

We finished on time just after 1:30pm which is pretty good for this length of walk. As usual, we made plenty of pit stops as well as two grocery store stops to fuel up.

By the end of the walk, the sun was peaking out, but still in the low 60s and overcast.

Wallace meets Grandma

Wallace and I drove to Brentwood today to visit and meet Grandma for the first time.

"The Hunger Games: The Exhibition "

Linda and I went to see The Hunger Games Exhibition at the Palace of Fine Arts yesterday. The costumes were really amazing in person. Here are some highlights.

Wallace and Saki Play Date!!

It's been over 8 weeks since Wallace and Saki had their last play date! Lizelle and Saki came over this afternoon, and Wallace and Saki immediately fell back into their routine as soon as Saki walked through the door. It was pretty amazing! They were really happy to see each other, and quickly ran outside to our backyard and started playing. So cute!

Wallace and Saki play so well together. Saki just turned one year old two days ago, and Wallace is only about 2 months older. They are also roughly the same size/weight, and have a similar energy level. Today, they played for over 1-1/2 hours straight, and would have played longer, but we all had to get ready to go out to dinner.

The first thing we immediately noticed was that Wallace has grown a good amount since the first time we met Saki! He weighs just over 18 lbs now, which is about 3 lbs more than he weighed when we first adopted him. The people at the SPCA said he was underweight, so we knew he needed to gain weight. We think he has actually grown in size as well, not just in weight. I have many friends who have told me that he would grow a bit more up to his second birthday. On top of the weight, his fur has grown quite a lot since we got him, plus I brushed him this morning, which makes him extra fluffy. :)

Wallace's Impersonation of Snowy

I snapped this picture of Wallace tonight as he was passed out on the sofa. Poor little guy was exhausted from his two-day doggie vacation.

The picture cracks me up because he has the same silhouette as our stuffed Snowy Dog. Wallace's ears were ever up like Snowy's (although his tail is pointed down).

These are things that make me laugh. :)

Wallace's Dinner in Carmel

We went to a great dog-friendly restaurant called the Forge in the Forest in Carmel for dinner tonight. They have a very nice outdoor patio where dogs are allowed and they even have a special dog menu! The server brought Wallace a fresh bowl of water and some treats before taking our order.

We were going to treat Wallace to a hot dog off the dog menu but our server cautioned us that it might upset his stomach if he's not accustomed to eating people food (he's not). It was good advice so we apologized to Wallace and promised him dinner once we returned to our hotel room.

We all enjoyed the dining experience and atmosphere very much! I also got one of the largest chocolate chip cookies ever.
